WooHoo! The new High School opens next Wednesday, January 3rd!
Doesn't it make you wish you were back in school? I loved high school.
It was one of the most memorable times in my life. As many of you know,
I grew up in Stuttgart, Arkansas, an agricultural community about an
hour southeast of Little Rock. The voters there had decided to build a
new high school in 1968, replacing a building about the same age as the
old Lowell school in Aurora. I was a freshman in '69, and the school
was still very new. I remember how proud I was that my hometown was
forward-thinking enough to build a fine new school building. It's been
expanded many times since then, but I still get a feeling of pride when
I pass by the old building when I visit Stuttgart.
I know the students, faculty, staff, administrators, and taxpayers (that
includes me) of the new Aurora High School have something to really be
proud of. I haven't seen inside the building yet, but I plan to soon.
I'm sure, when we look back, this decision will seem like a no-brainer.
And, I'm proud to be a part of the generation that was forward-thinking
enough to make the decision.
I read that there will be a dedication and open house on January 13th.
I hope to be there.
