WooHoo! The new High School opens next Wednesday, January 3rd!
Doesn't it make you wish you were back in school? I loved high school.
It was one of the most memorable times in my life. As many of you know,
I grew up in Stuttgart, Arkansas, an agricultural community about an
hour southeast of Little Rock. The voters there had decided to build a
new high school in 1968, replacing a building about the same age as the
old Lowell school in Aurora. I was a freshman in '69, and the school
was still very new. I remember how proud I was that my hometown was
forward-thinking enough to build a fine new school building. It's been
expanded many times since then, but I still get a feeling of pride when
I pass by the old building when I visit Stuttgart.
I know the students, faculty, staff, administrators, and taxpayers (that
includes me) of the new Aurora High School have something to really be
proud of. I haven't seen inside the building yet, but I plan to soon.
I'm sure, when we look back, this decision will seem like a no-brainer.
And, I'm proud to be a part of the generation that was forward-thinking
enough to make the decision.
I read that there will be a dedication and open house on January 13th.
I hope to be there.

Courthouse vote-again!
According to the following story from KY3 news...
http://www.ky3.com/news/5027646.html
voters in Lawrence county will be asked again to approve money for a new
courthouse in Mt. Vernon.
Which reminds me, with the new year coming, there will be new faces on
the county commission. I got a letter in the mail the other day from
Joe Ruscha, who apparently is now selling real estate for Carol Jones
Realtors. Good luck Joe. Seems like half the people I know are
suddenly in the real estate business.
New Wal-Mart
Hey, I noticed the dirt work is underway for the new Wal-Mart Supercenter in Aurora.
It's behind the old store.
Can't wait.
I still can't believe that Aurora's not big enough to support more than one grocery store. Allen's gave up too soon. Now, it'll be interesting to see if Ramey/Price Cutter will compete with the SuperCenter, once it's open.
I think it will. The Price Cutter store has the advantage to being closer to where many of us live. When they first built the Price Cutter store where it is, I wondered why they didn't move out to the south end of town. Guess they knew what they were doing.
